Mass readings of the 2018 IPCC Report on Global Warming of 1.5 Degrees
In August 2019 we staged a mass reading of the most important report on Climate change ever released at the CO2ntainer, Greenside@Infirmary Street as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
More than 140 politicians, activists, members of the public joined us to bear witness to, discuss and share this incredibly complex and important document. We had little idea the impact the reading would have on our audience or on our readers. We have added our report on the event to this website.
Covid curtailed all of our plans for 2020 actions in Europe and North America but we have been working with groups in Edinburgh and nearby to build up for COP26 in Glasgow. In August 2021 the IPCC released their new AR6 report which became known as the Code Red for Humanity Report so we created a one day reading at the Scottish Parliament and were joined by dozens of wonderful people, friends old and new, politicians, activists and stand up comedians to share, once again, the latest climate science.
We are working to stage further readings at arts festivals, parliaments and protests in the UK and abroad to try to ensure that the message of this report is carried as widely as possible.
If you want to stage a reading contact us firstname.lastname@example.org
The report states that ‘Embedded in the goal of limiting warming to 1.5 degrees is the opportunity for intentional societal transformation.'(1.4.3)
Our aim now is to encourage as many people as possible to engage in this mission of societal transformation through the democratisation of this report and to ask decision and policy makers
‘We have read the science. Have you?’
